Vw Nationals #5 Results
Vw Nationals #5 was by far the largest and best turnout to date. With a total of 103 Tech Cards sold and both sides of the track packed this is the MUST ATTEND event of the year. Promoter Scott Pocaro puts his heart and soul into this once a year event nestled just outside Hagerstown Maryland at one of the coolest tracks in the country titled Mason Dixon Dragway. With a beautiful weather forecast for the weekend festivities kicked off on Friday night with 2 very special classes.
The first was the 55 and older class for the old timers in our community to come back out and show case how it all started. Some of the east coasts biggest names in drag racing made the call on Friday night. Racers such as Pete Peek, Virgil Prehn, Buddy Chicklo and Gene Cook Sr were part of the 55 and older class. In the end it was Virginia’s own Virgil Prehn taking the win over a red lighting Gene Cook Sr.
Waterfest 25 Results
With temperatures scorching in the high 90's all weekend it didn't affect the racers from showing up and participating in the largest Island Dub A/GAS field in history. We want to thank Mike Pauciullo and Dan at Waterfest for allowing us to run alongside you guys in the Outlaw class.
We had a total of 17 cars in attendance and at the end of qualifying over a 2 day span it was Stephen Hawes sitting on top of the ladder with a 8.565 @ 160mph. Just behind him is current points leader and defending champion Ricardo Javier Tolay with an 8.737 and a blistering 171mph.
Even with track temperatures reaching close to 140 degrees the Atco Dragway staff gave us one of the best tracks we've seen in over a year. They worked tirelessly keeping the track in phenomenal shape and many racers clicked off some of their best passes to date. Racers such as Zachary Martin ran a 9.394, Austin Johnson III ran 9.729, and Richie Weekes a 9.687.
During eliminations Ricardo got a bye run first round when Reggie Leewas unable to make the car due to transmission issues. In Round 2 Ricardo also got the bye so he was slowly adding to his points lead. Unfortunately for Stephen Hawes he got taken out in Round 2 by Richie Weekes. When all the dust settled it was Richie Weekes making a run at the champion and unfortunately came up short when Ricardo laid down a blazing 8.772 @ 174mph in the heat of the day. This is Ricardo's 3rd win in a row for the JayCee Enterprises Heritage Series. Congratulations to Ricardo and his team.
Maple Grove Results 2019
On Sunday June 2nd, 2019 our JayCee Enterprises sponsored Heritage Series had its first race at the acclaimed Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, PA. The weather forecast had some projected rain showers later that afternoon so it was decided that we would opt to go with 1 qualifying session in all classes and head straight into eliminations.
The day started with our Rancho Performance Transaxles sponsored I/GAS class. Our 2018 defending champion Eric Hengstenberger made the long drive from Akron, OH to defend his championship against some of the east coast’s best racers. Even a few from down south such as Adam Dalton from North Carolina made the trip to Maple Grove. At the end of the day Nelson Rodriguez Sr. from New Jersey was the last man standing and took home the win and points lead when Eric Hengstenberger was shut off from an oil leak. In 2015 Nelson finished 2nd in the points chase and he’s focusing his attention to capturing that title this season.
SPONSOR HIGHLIGHT - Simpson Racing Engines
We would like to welcome "Ohio" Thomas Simpson and Simpson Racing Engines on board as one of our 2019 Sponsors. Tom has built countless engines and transmissions for numerous racers and enthusiasts all over the country. Most recently he has supplied horsepower for our 2018 IGAS Champion Eric Hengstenberger. Also racers such as Doug Dowd, Kevin Callahan, Gary Zipperian, and Daniel May.
Tom will be back out this year in his turbo charged car running in IGAS in hopes to steal that championship away from his good friend Eric. We look forward to seeing Tom and his family at the track and if you ever need any help or guidance he is an open book and is always willing to help a fellow Vw friend.
